What is E-Verify? 

E-Verify is a federal program that compares information submitted on Section 2 of Form I-9 against existing records from the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 

 

How Does E-Verify Work? 

E-Verify is an entirely online program. Employers submit New Hires’ I-9 information to E-Verify’s online portal, where it is then checked against federal records.

What is the History of E-Verify? Where did E-Verify Come From? 

E-Verify was created after the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, and in 2007 added photo matching capabilities. Though it changed names (from Basic Pilot Program), it has been in operation since the mid-1990s and has been continuously renewed by Congress.  

 

How Long does E-Verify Take? How long until I get my results from E-Verify? 

Since it is entirely online, E-Verify results are rapid—typically between 3-5 seconds.
