We had a spook-tacular response to our Halloween Survey conducted on our proprietary wINput mobile app. 81% of survey respondents are celebrating Halloween this year, proving once again that the adrenaline rush of a good scare isn't just for kids! Big Box is leading the charge to make it an extra creepy holiday. Here's a sneak peek at our results.
Trick or Treat?
More often than not (about 84% of the time), the nice person opening the door opts for handing out a treat versus being subject to a trick. So, who was in the front seat to supply the homeowners with the majority of the trick-defending arsenal of sugar?
Big Box! Those respondents who stated that they were going to hand out candy are heading to a Big Box retailer 47% of the time, with grocery in second place at 35%. 77% of those handing out candy reported a monstrous defense budget of over $11 with 20% spending $31 and over. No expense spared to ward off the pranks of ghouls and goblins!
What’s the weapon of choice? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, according to 33% of the respondents.
Dead or alive, the right outfit is a necessary evil! Big Box was highlighted as the frightening fashion destination for 27% of respondents who said they would either purchase a costume for themselves or a baby-boo. Party City followed with 16% and Spirit Halloween just behind at 12%. 11% are also buying costumes online. What does bloodcurdling couture cost these days? 28% of those buying a costume were planning on $20 or less. 29% went a bit higher at $21-$40 and 42% are spending $41 and over! Wow, creep ain’t cheap!
And where are they getting their costume ideas? 14% are consulting Pinterest for haunting ensemble ideas.
Setting a horrifying stage is part of the fun! Looks like Big Box is the one-stop shop as 47% of those decorating for Halloween headed there to make their purchases. 71% are spending less than $40. 29% are spending $41 and higher with 18% spending $41-$60.
Pinterest to the rescue again! Before heading out, 24% are checking out Pinterest for eerie ideas.
In summary, Pinterest and Big Box are a rockin’ combo – together they rock the supernatural!
With 38% of Halloween-goers checking out Pinterest, decorations and craft/game ideas were top of mind for this inspirational outlet.
Methodology: TrendSource surveyed U.S. wINput users between October 4th and October 20th, 2013. Results represent a total of approximately 350 respondents (rate of response differed by question). All respondents opted in to respond voluntarily.
