The year is already more than halfway over, summer is in full swing, and July 4th is already in the rear-view mirror. The end of the first week of July is full of significant turning points, but for business leaders across the country, perhaps none is quite so significant as the countdown to in-person I-9 requirements.
Indeed, July is the final month in which companies may onboard their New Hires remotely, without inspecting their identification documents in-person.
While companies may continue onboarding people remotely throughout the month of July, this would prove unwise. Indeed, DHS is further requiring companies to re-verify all employees who were remotely onboarded by the end of August. This means that any New Hires onboarded remotely in July will just have to be reverified in-person within the next month.
This would be a cumbersome and pointless expenditure of time and energy—better to just bite the bullet and onboard all New Hires in-person, regardless of their hire date.
Yet, companies have grown accustomed to hiring remote employees, and onboarding them remotely over a video conference platform was cost-effective and simple.
Now, companies must bring these New Hires into the office, however far that may be, in order to remain complaint with employee eligibility verification requirements. Of course, for smaller companies, the cost of such an in-bound venture for New Hires is prohibitive and the logistics are complicated.
Thankfully, DHS allows companies to use Authorized Representatives to complete I-9s in-person for their remote workers.
TrendSource has been serving as an Authorized Representative for companies for over a decade, helping them complete Section 2 of Form I-9 for their New Hires, wherever they reside. With Remote I-9 Verifications, TrendSource meets the in-person requirements for Form I-9 on behalf of its clients.

TrendSource relies on its vast, proprietary network of Field Agents spread across the country who can quickly schedule a meeting with New Hires in a public location where, together, they can complete Section 2 of Form I-9.
Together, they input Section 2 into TrendSource’s proprietary platform where, after going through a rapid and stringent QA process, the completed I-9 is available for clients in their dashboard.
July can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. For those in the know, it means that I-9 in-person requirements are coming back.
With TrendSource Remote I-9 Verifications, companies need not worry.
