TrendSource continues providing Remote I-9 Verifications for employers with remote employees as well as employers looking to unburden their Human Resources teams.
Today, we are answering common employer questions about employment eligibility verification, namely Form I-9. What is an authorized representative for I-9? And who can be an authorized representative for I-9?
Let’s find out!
An authorized representative for I-9 is any person an employer selects to complete Section 2 of Form I-9 on their behalf.
Employers are required to complete an I-9 for every employee, but with the rise of remote work, the in-person requirements for filling out Section 2 can be difficult. Authorized representatives help with this difficulty by completing Section 2 with the New Hire.
Oftentimes, authorized representatives are selected for their proximity to a New Hire, making it easy to meet and complete the I-9 together. But who can be an authorized representative for I-9s?
Pretty much anybody can act as an employer’s authorized representative for I-9s, but don’t take our word for it (seriously, never take anybody’s word for anything when it comes to compliance—do your own research!). Here are the current guidelines as outlined on the UCIS website.
It is extremely important for employers to recognize, however, that they remain responsible for any errors made by their authorized representative. If the I-9 is not filled out correctly, for whatever reason, the employer is out of compliance. Period. It does not matter if somebody else, like an authorized representative, filled out the I-9. It’s the employer’s responsibility and liability.
This is why, when choosing authorized representatives, it is imperative that employers choose wisely. This isn’t a job for anybody, and not everybody in the business is as careful as they should be.
TrendSource, however, has the industry experience and accountability to ensure that Remote I-9 Verifications are completed accurately and quickly.
TrendSource has been pioneering and developing Remote I-9 Verifications since even before remote work really caught on. Honestly, we’ve been doing this for a while, and we are quite good at it.
With TrendSource, New Hires are directly connected with a nearby TrendSource Field Agent, who acts as the employer’s authorized representative. They schedule an in-person meeting with the New Hire and complete Section 2 of Form I-9 together.
Employers and New Hires do not have to scramble to find a local notary, and they don’t have to empower an authorized representative they do not trust. With TrendSource, employers can rest assured their authorized representatives are not only quickly and accurately completing form I-9, but that they are also representing their company, well, in a way they would authorize.
