DIfferent Types of OnSite Inspections for Consumer Reporting: What You Need to Know About Physical and Virtual Inspections

TrendSource is a premier provider of OnSite Inspections for Consumer Reporting, and one of only a few companies whose Inspections are authorized by all three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion).

But in addition to traditional physical OnSite Inspections for Consumer Reporting, TrendSource also offers two Virtual Inspection types: Video Call Inspections and Phone-Call-Only Inspections.

So, how do you know what Inspection type is right for you? Below, we outline each Inspection type and give you all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Physical Onsite Inspections for Consumer Reporting

How they work: The traditional Physical OnSite Inspection for Consumer Reporting involves an Inspector physically visiting the office under inspection. The Inspector completes the questionnaire with the Contact, and also takes specific photographs.

What you should know: Physical OnSite Inspections are approved by all three credit bureaus. While states are reopening, in-person Inspections may still be put on hold if the Contact or agent advises that a Physical Inspection cannot be completed due to COVID restrictions.

Virtual Inspections for Consumer Reporting – Video Call

How they work: Video Call Inspections are conducted over a video chat platform, with the Inspector going over the questionnaire with the Contact while receiving a virtual tour of the office. The Contact follows detailed instructions provided by TrendSource OnSite Inspections to provide geotagged photos of their office for inclusion in the final report, which the Inspector confirms matches the virtual tour. The geotags on the photos provide confirmation that the photos were taken at the listed address of the business.

What you should know: Video Call Inspections are approved by the credit bureaus, however each bureau will be requiring a follow-up Physical OnSite Inspection at a later date. For further information regarding proof of approval or the follow-up visit, please reach out directly to your bureau rep(s).

Virtual Inspections for Consumer Reporting – Phone Call Only

How they work: Phone Call-Only Inspections are conducted exclusively over the phone. The Inspector goes over only the questionnaire with the Contact. There is no visual confirmation, and no photos are included in the final report.

What you should know: Phone Call-Only Inspections have not been approved by any of the three major credit bureaus. We nonetheless offer them at the request of clients who find themselves in situations where the Contact cannot access their office due to current restrictions.
